Do we need a custom map?

May I post my opinion here? I strongly disagree with the "no" option, and I feel the need to voice my opinion here.

I strongly suggest we consider the prospects of a custom map with an open mind. I understand that you all want the server to be up ASAP, but I've done my share of visiting outside RP servers and I can say in confidence that preparation takes between three months and two years, depending on the complexity of the RP, plugins, map, and builds. This being said, we are still in very early development and I don't expect our map to be made anytime soon. I have personally begun learning the ways of WorldPaint so I can create a custom map if need be. In fact, I've already made a basic shell for a moderately-sized map (about the size of the map on FN before it went medieval). All it currently needs are some beaches, lakes, ponds, mountains, and trees to make it decent. I don't mind us having a Minecraft-generated map to start out with, but I want to make sure that we're all on the same page about preparation time if we're serious about the server. I suggest we ditch the staff-only preparatory stage and get everyone who's already invited involved. If we do it this way, we'll get builds done faster and plugins tested quicker than we would with our four staff members. Then, after some experimental builds have been constructed, plugin tested, and other maintenance stuff completed, we can begin work on the actual map and go from there.
