War and conquest are key parts to any medieval Minecraft server, and we actually encourage both to add excitement to Ectoria. However, there are some rules that have to be followed for both.
Rules of War
Rules of Conquest and Land Division
- War must be declared at least three (3) days prior to attack. Declarations must be founded on legitimate terms; wars cannot be started over petty reasons.
- Battles should be fought on an open battlefield, or in front of a city for sieges.
- To make a battle legal, the leaders of both sides must be online, and at least four additional defenders.
- All wars must have at least one attack and one counterattack. Anything short of this is considered either a raid or skirmish, depending on the context.
- Each side must wear a leather helmet with a single color of their nation. For uniformity, the humans must wear red, Ardanach gold, dwarves blue, elves green, and Sekvar black. This lowers the chance of friendly fire and other accidental attacks on fellow soldiers.
- When placing a city under siege, the attackers must capture the command center or kill all the defenders to claim the settlement as their own, whichever comes first. The location and building may vary from city to city, but most cities should have a citadel, castle, or town hall at a minimum.
- When placing a city under siege, select types of griefing are allowed, but not utter destruction of the city. Legitimate griefing may only occur using TNT or cannons, and at least 50% of the city must still remain completely or partially intact.
- When fighting on an open battlefield, a side is defeated only after their army is killed entirely or a retreat/surrender is issued. Killing the leader does not affect a side being defeated.
- If a side loses a war, they are subject to being restricted from further action based on the victor's decisions. Absolute restriction of freedom is not allowed under any circumstances, but establishing partial dominion over the defeated party is permitted.
Rules of Conquest and Land Division
- To claim land and establish leadership over a tract of land, all villages, towns, and cities must be taken either peaceably or by force. If the land is not inhabited, a village must be established to lay claim.
- A nation's borders are determined by the boundaries of their established villages. A nation may not call land their own if it is outside their boundaries.
- All nations are allowed to build on neighboring continents, but know that, because of the separation from the mainland, the colony may be susceptible to invasion and conquest.
- It is advised that nations establish roads in between cities and villages to enable faster travel from one boundary to another.
Rules of Raiding
- Raids are not required to have a declaration before taking action, but at least two defenders must be online. The leader does not have to be available for the raid to be made legal.
- In a raid, only minimal amounts of griefing is allowed. Breaking in to a home/building and stealing is permitted.
- Killing all defenders is allowed and advocated, but note that murder may lead to war.
